On Sunday, May 17, 2026, at 12:38 p.m., units from the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched to a vehicle collision with a reported person trapped in Frederick County on Route 27 at Mill Bottom Road. Medic 19, Rescue 1, and Chief 1-2 were the initial responders and arrived to find a two-vehicle T-bone collision, with one person trapped inside a vehicle. Engine 12 and Medic 18 responded to provide additional assistance.

Crews began by assessing all patients, stabilizing the vehicles, and managing any hazards at the scene. They used extrication tools to safely remove one person from a vehicle while paramedics provided medical care. After the extrication, two patients were transported by Maryland State Police helicopter to a regional trauma center. Emergency crews operated at the scene for about an hour.

Maryland State Police managed the scene investigation and any necessary follow-up. Some photos from the incident were provided courtesy of Laytonsville Chief 717.

Units: Medic 19, Rescue 1, Chief 1-2, Engine 12, Medic 18
