On Thursday May 29 at 0740 hours (7:40 am), units from MAVFC and surrounding companies were dispatched for a house fire in the 300 block of Carroll Avenue in Mount Airy. First arriving units found light smoke coming from the residence. A close by hydrant would not open so supply lines had to be laid to another hydrant a short distance more away. Forced entry was made to the house through the front door where heavy smoke was encountered. A search of the house was made where a fire was found in the kitchen area. Unfortunately, two dogs were found in the home not breathing. Resuscitation efforts were made with no success on the scene, but both dogs were taken to a nearby veterinarian. Fire damage was limited to the kitchen area with significant smoke damage to most of the home. Damage estimates are not yet available at this time. The fire is being investigated by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. Units from Carroll, Howard, Frederick, and Montgomery Counties, the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office and the Mount Airy Police Department responded to the incident. There were no Injuries to firefighters or civilians. Units were on the scene for approximately 2 hours.
