On January 29 at 1224 hours (12:24 pm), units were dispatched for a townhouse fire in the unit block of Grimes Court in Mount Airy. All Mount Airy Fire Company units were committed on a house fire in Winfield at that time. An engine from Damascus was transferred into the Mount Airy station and responded first on the call. On arrival E713 found a townhouse with heavy smoke coming from the roof and second floor. An attack line was stretched to the front door as E713 hooked up to a hydrant in front of the townhouse row. A very quick, aggressive attack was made and the fire knocked down rapidly. In coming units assisted with backup hose lines and opening up some walls and ceilings. The extensive fire damage was contained to the second floor and attic, but there was smoke and water damage throughout the townhouse. There were no injuries to any firefighters, civilians or pets. The Frederick County Fire Marshal's office was requested to determine the area of origin and the cause of the fire.
Units from Damascus (MCDFRS), New Market (FCDFRS), New Windsor VFD, Lisbon (HCDFRS), Green Valley (FCDFRS), Libertytown (FCDFRS), Urbana (FCDFRS), Sykesville VFD, Mount Airy VFD, and Carroll County DFEMS responded to the scene.
The origin and cause of the fire is being investigated by the Frederick County Fire Marshal's office. The results of the investigation are incomplete currently. Damage estimates and origin and cause investigation results will be updated by the FCFMO later.
